Vasi Stripes D
The first thing that catches the eye in this series of vases is the extremely thin thickness of the marble, about 2 mm, which makes them surprisingly light and transparent. They are all made from a 2 cm thick flat slab from which thin concentric rings are obtained by waterjet cutting, which are overlapped to create the various shapes and proportions of the vases. All the rings to make a series of six vases of different heights can be obtained from a single slab of about 50 x 50 cm, with a considerable saving of material used and processing waste. They are available in different types of marble that can also be combined in each of the different shapes.

Today, food is completely desacralized. It is mostly produced by machines, not humans; However, we had been fed by machines for a long time. Food is no longer nourishment, but pure mer-chandise. Instead, it should be our daily divinity, higher than the divinity that created the world, because it keeps it alive. Keeping the world alive is greater and more difficult than creating it. Therefore, we should worship an apple with more reverence than we reserve for the unknown force that has laid the foundations of the universe.

Utilizing an object to express this humble veneration is the least we can do to oppose ourselves to an un-natural logic. We have thrown apples in the mud: we can’t put them back on the tree. Let’s at least put them on a pedestal, so they can regain a little of their dignity and original value. Not piled one on top of the other or thrown indifferently in a container, not stored up as any goods, but taken individually, for what they really are: the site of an authentic sweetness that is the mystery of myster-ies.

Drap - Vases, bowls, trays
When water-jet cutting is used on thick marble, it tends to lose its precision in the final part of the thickness, producing ripples on the surface. This characteristic, usually considered a defect, is here underlined and brought out to become a new aesthetic quality that ideally recalls the effect of the draping of fabric. The idea was to use this feature/characteristic/defect of the cut to obtain rings of various heights, thin and light and characterised by the rippled surface of the walls and edges. The rings are then fitted with a marble base to become containers of various types. The concentric cutting of the rings (circular, ellipsoidal, hexagonal, etc.) makes it possible to optimise the volume of marble processed so that 5 or 6 vases can be obtained from each individual block of marble, thus considerably minimising the amount of waste. Every single vase, bowl or tray is a unique piece, which is absolutely one-of-a-kind.
